The following rules have been established by the MLRA Board of Directors, and the Board reserves the right to change and add to these rules without notice when necessary. These rules apply to all members and their guests.
1.1. An encumbrance is registered against the property of the homeowner to secure an annual rent charge
(Membership Fee). Membership Fees are mandatory.
1.2. Membership Fees are due on April 1st of every year and are payable to the McKenzie Lake Residents
Association. They may be paid by mail, online, or directly at the office of the Association located at 16199
McKenzie Lake Way S.E., T2Z 1L7.
1.3. A “member” is as defined in the Articles of Association of the McKenzie Lake Residents Association.
1.4. Members will be issued a membership card and each member must present their card upon entrance to the
facility.
1.5. Membership cards are not transferable.
2.1 The registered owner(s) of an eligible property is entitled to membership. Individuals registered on that
property title can set up membership at the main office and obtain membership cards. If renting the property,
a letter or email is required from the owner indicating that the owner transfers their member privileges to the
tenant. Renters also need to show Government picture ID with the McKenzie Lake address on it to prove
residency. Owners or renters may have membership, not both. In a case where there is more than one owner
on the property title and they reside in different properties, only one owner may be designated for membership
privileges, as well as the family members residing in the same property as the designated owner.
2.2. Tenants in Calgary Housing properties are eligible for membership as per the Articles of Association. To verify
tenancy, you are required to provide a copy of your lease agreement and Government picture ID.
2.3. Adult children, boarders and nannies 21 years of age or older and living in a member’s residence may be issued
cards subject to periodic review. Before a membership card is issued, you will be required to show proof of
McKenzie Lake residency, by way of Government issued picture ID with the McKenzie Lake address on it.
2.4. Membership cards are eligible to be replaced every two (2) years without charge. If a membership card is lost
or damaged within two (2) years, members will be charged a fee for replacement.
2.5. With parents or guardians’ consent and when necessary appropriate date of birth verification, membership
cards can be issued to member’s children who are 12 years of age or older.
2.6. Membership cards remain the property of the Association who may request such cards be returned if the
cardholder breaches these rules or ceases to be a member
3.1. Members with outstanding fees will not be permitted to access the facility.
3.2. All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied and supervised at all times by an individual who is at
least 16 years old.
3.3. The Association does not provide supervision or lifeguards. Members and guests are responsible for their
children at all times. Members and guests use the facility at their own risk.
3.4. Inappropriate language and rambunctious or unsafe behavior will not be tolerated.
3.5. Alcoholic beverages, non-prescription drugs (including all cannabis products) and glass containers are not
permitted in the facility. The Association reserves the right to inspect all containers, bags, coolers, etc.

3.6. Bicycles are not permitted in the facility and must be stored in the bicycle racks provided. Skateboards,
rollerblades and scooters may be taken into the facility for security but cannot be used.
3.7. Animals, other than Guide dogs and Qualified Service Dogs, are not allowed in the facility, in boats, in the
lake or on the lake ice. Qualified Service Dogs will only be permitted access to the facility if the owner is
present with the dog and has a valid up to date Service Identification Card on their person. They must also
comply with all Government of Alberta Regulations.
3.8. Use of boogie boards or similar recreation equipment on the beach area is at the discretion of Management.
3.9. Open fires are not permitted. Only briquettes may be used in the BBQs provided.
3.10. Hockey sticks and pucks may be used on the lake ice rinks only.
3.11. Nobody is permitted on the lake while Thin Ice signs are posted.
3.12. Nobody is allowed on the rinks while the Zamboni or other equipment is servicing the ice.
3.13. Tobogganing is permitted in designated areas only.
3.14. The use in the facility of motorized vehicles other than motorized wheelchairs is not permitted.
3.15. Motorized remote control driven boats, planes, drones or any other vehicles are not permitted on MLRA
property.
3.16. Running extension cords from any MLRA building is not permitted, unless for MLRA use.
3.17. Bouncy gyms are not permitted in the facility unless for a MLRA organized event.
3.18. Use of generators in the facility is not permitted.
3.19. MLRA is a smoke and tobacco free facility. It is strictly prohibited to smoke anywhere in the facility, buildings
or Beach Club deck. This includes chewing tobacco, all cannabis products, E-cigarettes and all smoking devices
and products.
3.20. No person shall at any time throw, dump, or place any trash or debris of any kind whatsoever in the lake.
3.21. The MLRA facility is for the exclusive use of Association members and their guests. The facility can be used
for family related activities where such activities are not advertised, no fees charged and there is no intent to
market or sell products or services.
3.22.Snow removal equipment stored on the lake ice or dock must be parked on a catchment tray that is large
enough to capture all fluids in the event of a leak or spill.
3.23.Members are permitted to bring a small portable barbecue with a propane tank of 5 lbs or less.
4.1. Members 16 years of age or older may sign in up to 10 guests per day, with a household maximum of 10 guests
per day. The member must be present at the gate as each guest enters the facility.
4.2. Adult members may request to host more than 10 guests per household per day by completing an Association
form with all guest names and submitting it in advance, as per the instructions on the list. Special requests for
groups over 25 guests are considered, with a maximum of two requests per household per year, and must be
made at least one week in advance of the function date. Approvals are at management discretion.
4.3. Members between 12 and 16 years of age may sign in up to 2 guests (non-members) per day. Guests must be
12 years of age or older.
4.4. Guests cannot be admitted until the member has entered the facility.
4.5. Members cannot be signed in as a guest of another member.
4.6. Members are fully responsible for their guests and their guests’ actions while in the facility.
4.7. Members must be always present in the facility while their guests are using the facility.
4.8. The Association reserves the right to limit the number of guests and to refuse guests access to the facility.
5.1. Tennis courts are to be used for tennis or pickle ball only.
5.2. Soft soled non-marking tennis shoes only – no street shoes; no wheelies.
5.3. Chairs and other hard objects are not permitted on the courts.
5.4. The courts are available on a first come, first serve basis.
5.5. Use of the courts is restricted to 45-minute periods during busy times, unless a formal instruction program
authorized by Management is scheduled. Any such formal instruction program shall have priority use of the
courts.
5.6. Members using the courts are limited to one guest per member before 12pm, any day of the week.
6.1. North Beach is the ornamental park located at the north end of the lake and shall be accessed via the lake only.
6.2. Lake access ways are for the sole use of the homeowners on the Lake Access lots immediately adjacent to such
access ways with Schedule “E” Encumbrance and Schedule “I” Easement registered on the title to their
property.
6.3. The hours of operation and the rules that apply throughout the facility including, no animals; no glass; no
alcohol, also apply to North Beach and to lake access ways.
6.4. No private property is to be stored on any lake access way.
6.5. Access way docks are the property of the McKenzie Lake Residents Association and are not to be altered or
added to in any way.
6.6. Temporary structures cannot be left on the dock
6.7. Boats, flotation devices, and other structures cannot be secured to the dock, fence or any part of the shoreline
7.1. Members wishing to sign out a boat/SUP must leave their membership card at the boathouse (or Guard House
when the boathouse is closed). No card, no boat/SUP.
7.2. Only one boat can be signed out at any time by a member, and they must be 16 years of age or older. The
member signing out the boat must remain in the boat at all times.
7.3. Members under 16 years of age are not permitted the use of any MLRA boat unless accompanied by another
member over 16 years of age.
7.4. Members 16 years of age and older are permitted to sign out one SUP for their own use, as well as one
additional SUP for a friend or family member, provided you remain together on the water at all times. The
following age conditions apply:
Members 18 years of age and older are permitted to sign out an additional SUP with someone who
is 12 years of age and older. The member will be required to sign a waiver for anyone under the age
of 16.
Members between the age of 16 and 18 are permitted to sign out an additional SUP with someone
who is 16 years of age or older.
7.5. Federal legislation requires that one CSA approved personal flotation device or lifejacket of appropriate size
for each person on board is carried on all boats while using the lake. The Association is not responsible for any
incidents arising from non-compliance.
7.6. A Lifejacket or CSA approved personal flotation device and a board leash must be worn at all times while
using a SUP rented from MLRA.
7.7. No boats/SUP will be allowed out 1 hour prior to closing and all equipment must be returned ½ hour prior to
closing.
7.8. Due to high demand, boats may only be signed out for a 2-hour period. SUP Boards may only be signed out
for a 1-hour period. If members exceed the time limits, boat/SUP or facility privileges may be suspended.
7.9. Jumping and swimming from boats/SUP is strictly prohibited.
7.10. Boats may only be tied up to boat docks. Boats must not be pulled up onto the rocks or onto the beach.
7.11. MLRA SUP Boards must be stored on the beach boat racks when not in use. MLRA SUP Boards must not be
pulled up onto the rocks or stored on the beach sand or anywhere else in the facility.
7.12. When potentially hazardous conditions such as lightning, high winds, and storms exist, all boats/SUP and other
water recreation equipment must come ashore immediately.
7.13. No boat/SUP or other water recreation equipment shall be operated in a manner deemed unsafe by
Management.
7.14. Any equipment that is damaged or considered unsafe should be returned to the Boathouse or Security Gate
immediately.
7.15. A line of buoys is used to mark the swimming area. Boats including sailboats and windsurfers are not allowed
between the beach and buoys. SUP boards are permitted in the swimming area directly beside the boathouse
only when mounting and dismounting the Board.
7.16. Other than for the patrol boat and any emergency service boat, the use on the lake of motorized watercraft
including the use of electric trolling motors is not permitted.

7.17. Lake shoreline and access way residents can use boats and watercraft on the lake but are limited to kayaks,
canoes, row boats, pedal boats, small sailboats, wind surfers, SUP boards, tethered water trampolines and
slides. No home-made craft or home-made floating docks/platforms are allowed.
8.1. Members and their guests are permitted to fish and while fishing each member must leave their membership
card at the Security Gate or Boathouse.
8.2. Fishing limits:
Rainbow Trout:
3 fish per household per day
15 fish per household per month
All fish caught by guests will be included in the members’ limit
Brown Trout, Brook Trout, and Tiger Trout
Catch and release only. It is strictly prohibited to keep brown, brook, or tiger trout.
8.3. Members must register the number of fish caught including those caught by their guests before leaving the
facility. Shoreline and lake access members must advise the office of the number of fish caught.
8.4. Catching grass carp is strictly prohibited and must be released immediately.
8.5. Fishing is permitted with reel and rod only. Live bait or nets cannot be used to catch fish.
8.6. Only single barb less hooks may be used for fishing; maximum two (2) hooks per fishing line.
8.7. Cleaning of fish is not permitted on any MLRA property.
8.8. Unattended fishing lines are not permitted on any MLRA or privately owned property.
8.9. Members and their guests are permitted to access the facility with only one (1) fishing rod per person
8.10. Members and their guests are permitted to fish with only one line per person in the water
8.11. Use of gaffs, gaff hooks or spring loaded hooks is prohibited.
8.12. Culling fish is prohibited
8.13. Fishing is closed 15 minutes prior to the facility closing. Fisherpersons must report to the guard house or office
prior to leaving the facility.
8.14. While ice fishing, fisherman must maintain a 10 meter distance from any lake shore dock/shoreline; maintain
a 5 meter distance from any skating surface; limited to 2 holes per person in one general area.
9.1. All Divers must register at the gate and show their certification cards before entering the facility with their dive
gear.
9.2. Members may bring in guests to scuba dive providing all divers are open water certified.
9.3. All Divers must dive with a certified buddy. There must be always at least two (2) divers in the water.
9.4. Divers must use a flag so swimmers and boaters will know where the divers are.
The Association’s Board of Directors has authorized the General Manager to establish and enforce procedures with
respect to suspensions for non-compliance with these rules.
